Katy and Lindsey of DEAD GOOD are death education practitioners who offer a wide range of eco-death initiatives across the North East of England and Cheshire.
About DEAD GOOD
DEAD GOOD is a death education social enterprise based in both the North East of England and Cheshire, and is run by sisters Katy and Lindsey Vigurs. We work as both socially engaged artists and imaginative community eco-death educators, exploring and gently challenging both public and hidden narratives of death and dying. Our work aims to create a mortal portal where creative conversations about ecological and low-carbon endings are normalised and embraced.
Katy is an academic by background, an award-winning university educator and a social researcher, with expertise in social justice and creative approaches to public engagement. Lindsey has spent most of her life as an artist and commercial illustrator for clients such as the BBC. Together, our work aims to end taboos and increase eco-choice and creativity around all things death and dying.
To this end, we offer a range of creative eco-encounters around mortality, ritual, grief, legacy, and remembrance. DEAD GOOD also creates and runs lively and engaging learning for individuals and organisations on a range of eco-death education topics. We also design and sell mortality eco-merchandise.
One of our core social objectives is to reduce the environmental harm of funeral practices in the UK. We do this by solely promoting natural burial over all other choices of physical send-off, as well as advocating for sustainable and low carbon coffins, shrouds and funeral flowers. We do this through our social media accounts, weekly newsletters, workshops and courses.
This year we’ve been commissioned to run eco-funeral workshops at festivals, including for families (we got families shrouding pre-loved Avengers toys and then giving them a mock natural burial – they loved it). We also run eco-funeral photoshoots for celebrants and other funeral practitioners and death workers.
