Cothiemuir Hill Burial Ground is a haven of peace and natural beauty at the heart of the historic Forbes Estate in the Howe of Alford, Donside, Aberdeenshire.

About Cothiemuir Hill Burial Ground

It has been a special, historically important place, for thousands of years. The woodland at Cothiemuir Hill Burial Ground is somewhere special to spend time listening to the birdsong in the surrounding woodland, admiring the neolithic stones, and taking in the fine view of Bennachie Hill.

The natural burial ground is managed as a central part of the historic Forbes Estate, located within the beautiful Strathdon landscape. Native wildflowers grow around the burial glades, wildlife inhabits the woodland and surrounding hills, which all make for an inspiriting and enchanting place to be.

Our custodian Malcolm Forbes looks after the burial ground and everyone who has a connection with it. Malcolm would be happy to meet you there, to walk you around and talk about what works well. He will also be there on the day of the funeral to give any assistance. Malcolm lives in the nearby Castle Forbes that for almost six hundred years has been the seat of Premiere Lord of Scotland.
