How to find a natural burial ground near you

With now close to 300 natural burial grounds across the UK, finding a site near you should be easy. You’ll find that some areas of the UK have a greater number of natural burial grounds than others, but the number of sites is growing rapidly as the UK responds to the surge in popularity of natural burial. So if you are looking for a list of natural burial grounds near you, we are here to help.

Why choose a natural burial?

Over the last few decades natural burial has grown rapidly in popularity as more and more cemeteries reach capacity and as we become increasingly aware of our environmental impact on the world around us.

The traditional funeral industry encompasses a number of processes which can be harmful to the environment, such as embalming, coffin manufacture, cremation and the scattering of ashes. So natural burial seeks to remove the majority of these processes by keeping everything as natural as possible using only biodegradable materials. It is therefore the perfect choice for nature lovers and for those who want to leave a lasting legacy of care for the planet.

Another benefit of natural burial is the flexibility offered for funeral services and the beauty of the natural surroundings providing a welcome relief for those going back to visit the grave in years to come. This type of burial is not only kinder to the planet, it can also be kinder to the grieving process.

Choosing something other than the traditional burial or cremation can feel daunting, but at Eco Endings we hope to reassure you that this is fast becoming the most natural choice – and we hope to help you find a natural burial ground near you so that you can visit and explore what they have to offer.

How can I find a natural burial ground near me?

We launched Eco Endings in 2024 with the aim of providing a comprehensive, easy-to-use directory of natural burial grounds across the UK, as well as offering advice and ideas on our blog for those exploring this option. You can search the Eco Endings Directory to find a natural burial ground near you, but please note that we are in the process of building up the directory, so this is not yet a full list.

If you would like to view a full list of the natural burial grounds registered with the Association of Natural Burial Grounds (ANBG), you can do so via the Natural Death Centre website.
